Stakeholder Meetings

The Climate Change Action Plan being prepared within the scope of the Project to Update Türkiye’s Nationally Determined Contribution and Long-Term Climate Change Strategy was addressed during stakeholder meetings held in Ankara on May 10–24 with the participation of approximately 420 representatives, and on January 9–13, 2023 with the participation of approximately 800 representatives.

The actions for the LULUCF, Waste, Buildings, Transport, Agriculture, Industry and Energy sectors, which have been revised in accordance with the opinions obtained during sectoral meetings held with the participation of public and private sector, NGO and academia representatives, were reviewed in seven separate sectoral meetings with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Many topics were discussed in detail, such as energy efficiency in all sectors, especially the increased use of renewable energy in the energy sector with the ultimate goal of a green transformation; energy efficiency in industry, especially through transformations in technologies and fuels; modal shifts in transportation; electrification; the use of energy efficient-options in buildings, particularly through the adoption of an almost zero emission building concept; measures and studies to increase sinks in the LULUCF sector; feed rations in agriculture; animal husbandry; and the application of circular economy principles related to waste, as well as the technology and training needs and equitable transition issues faced by all sectors.

The stakeholder meetings held under the Updating of Türkiye’s Nationally Determined Contribution and Long-Term Climate Change Strategy Project were joined by representatives of the Climate Change Presidency and the UNDP, as well as representatives of the public and private sectors, academia and relevant NGOs. Online meetings were also organized with relevant stakeholders operating in the sectors deemed necessary for such discussions, and detailed consultations were held. The applied efforts, which take into account the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals announced by the United Nations, are based on data, modelling and projections identified through a participatory and inclusive approach.
